What are the most important factors to consider when selecting a paint professional?
Without a doubt you need to make sure the company you entrust your property to is a licensed professional that provides the following:
- Reputation – In this industry reputation is very important. Check references. Laperle Painting is proud that many of our clients come from word-of-mouth and repeat clients.
- Experience – no subcontractors or part-time workers should be used, when this happens, control over quality and timetables are lost.
- Following a proven process – without a process, quality is unsure.
- Quality materials and pride in workmanship. Ask what products will be used on your project and ask to see references.
- Warranty – Reputable contractors will back up their work with a warranty. Laperle Painting provides a 24 month warranty.
- Adhere to Ecological Issues – Laperle uses registered material removal companies to properly dispose of paint solvents. Core to our belief is protecting the environment and shielding both you and us from legal issues.

Why is Licensing Important?
Your contractor should be pulling the permit. It’s a common and dangerous practice for a contractor to ask the homeowner to pull the permit in their name as the homeowner. Homeowners are allowed to pull certain permits on their primary residence; however, this is intended for when homeowners do the work themselves. If a homeowner pulls the permit and allows another person to perform the work for pay, the homeowner is disqualified from participation in the Commonwealth’s Guaranty Fund – which protects him/her from these very same contractors. Beware of the contractor that pulls the permit with somebody else’s license. There are also less-than-ethical licensed contractors who will “rent” out their license for a fee. Licensing and registration is in place to protect the consumer and the public. Be sure you have the state on your side and that you’re protected.
Laperle Painting Company license number is 166491.
How to check with the Better Business Bureau?
Contractors, by most state laws must be registered and display their six-digit registration number on all advertisements, contracts, and permits. To see if any complaints have been registered, you can check with the Board of Building Regulations and Standards and the Better Business Bureau.
